Alexandra Dreaming (AUS) 3 f Written Tycoon – Umaquest by Umatilla
This looked to be a strong maiden plate on paper, with a host of already-raced individuals boasting some impressive placed form coming into this contest.
Alexandra Dreaming, the eventual winner, is a filly worth following and looks to have justified her connections faith in supplementing her for the Thousand Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) at Caulfield in October.
She was smartly away on debut and after being in front early on, settled in second place. She moved up at the 600m, easily took the lead on passing the 300m and then went on to score impressively by almost two lengths. She looks a filly with a good future.
By Woodside Park’s Written Tycoon (Iglesia), Alexandra Dreaming is out of the Listed-winning racemare Umaquest, who has produced winners from all six of her named foals. That sextet is spearheaded by J H B Carr Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) victor Yattarna (Exceed And Excel), who was sold to China Horse Club for $600,000 at the William Inglis Chairman’s Sale Breeding Prospects last year.
Umaquest herself, who was not served in 2017, is out of the winning mare Carmenesque (Scenic), who registered a trio of placed efforts at pattern level to compliment her six career victories. Alexandra Dreaming’s third dam, the once-raced Vagrant Lady (Brigand), was a sister to the seven-time winner Painted Ocean, successful at both Group 3 and Listed level.
