All horses out for exercise on second day in quarantine
The Charlie Fellowes-trained Prince Of Arran (Shirocco) looked in good order as he made his way steadily round Side Hill, under the watchful eye of his young trainer.
The five-year-old gelding will run first up in the Herbert Power Stakes (Gr 2, 2400m) at Caulfield on October 13 and also holds an entry in the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m).
Lonsdale Cup (Gr 2, 2m½f) runner-up Count Octave (Frankel) also looked in excellent order on Side Hill yesterday and he was joined by his stablemate, last start Chester Stakes (Listed, 1m6.5f) winner Duretto (Manduro). The pair both hold entries for the Flemington showpiece on the first Tuesday in November.
Meanwhile, Ed Dunlop, who who sent out Red Cadeaux (Cadeaux Genereux) to finish second in three Melbourne Cups, will aim Red Verdon (Lemon Drop Kid) at the Group 1 this time around and he looked to have settled into his new surroundings well, putting in a steady piece of exercise on Side Hill yesterday.
Red Verdon is owned by Ronnie Arculli meaning he will carry the same silks as Red Cadeaux.
“They’ve all come into quarantine in good order,” said Prentice. “They had their first tests on Thursday, and they won’t get the results back until next week. The colts will undergo some different testing to the geldings, they will have swabs and extra bloods. But everything is so far so good heading into the first weekend.”
