The saying “patience is a virtue” was personified at Randwick last Saturday as Amazing Eagle (Capitalist) made his comeback to the races a triumphant one when landing the Sir Brian Crowley Stakes (Listed, 1200m).

Making his first start since March 10, and fourth overall, the colt had shown plenty of promise as a juvenile in placing in all three of his outings, including for third in the Black Opal Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) on his final start last season.

Returning in last weekend’s Listed event as a $7.50 chance under Tyler Schiller, the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou-trained son of Capitalist (Written Tycoon) narrowly held off the attentions of the Peter Snowden-trained pair Manos (Snitzel) and King Of Roseau (Capitalist) by 0.1 lengths and 0.2 lengths respectively.

“He ran well at his first start and started favourite after winning two trials,” Ryan said.

“Then he got a temperature and then later we went to Canberra twice and he was ok, but he pulled up after that with a little tiny chip in a knee, so we took it out and gave him a nice long spell and he’s come back a much stronger horse and more mentally switched on.”

Amazing Eagle was a $400,000 yearling purchase for George Moore Bloodstock from the draft of his co-breeders Highgrove Stud at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, and became the 21st individual stakes winner for his Newgate-based sire.

The colt is the third foal and third winner out of Taliqua (Charge Forward), herself out of Hill-Smith Stakes (Listed, 1822m) winner Anacarde (Anabaa).
