The Simon Miller-trained Amelia’s Jewel (Siyouni) made a very favourable impression when she ran out a comfortable winner of the Supremacy Stakes (Listed, 1000m) on her debut at Ascot last weekend.
Ridden by Patrick Carbery, the two-year-old filly settled nicely in fourth place early in the race before moving up well turning for home, soon getting the upper hand in the straight to beat Fiorucci Mama (Rommel) by two and a quarter lengths not hard pushed with a further quarter-length back to Costume Party (A Lot) in third.
“Small fields can be quite tricky, but she jumped exceptionally and lobbed in a good spot,” Carberry said.
“She travelled sweetly, although I was wary of being caught in a pocket just before straightening, but she balanced up and let down and did it nicely.
“She is very smart, very chilled, got a bit excited behind the barrier, but when she got with the pony, she was quite happy. She has an older horse’s head on her like she has been here before.”
A homebred for Amelia Park Racing & Breeding, Amelia’s Jewel is the first and only foal to race out of the stakes-placed winning Canford Cliffs (Tagula) mare Bumbasina.
Consigned to the 2019 Tattersalls July Sale, Bumbasina, a half-sister to Group 2 winner Epona Plays (Australia) and Group 3 winner Dolce Strega (Zoffany), was a 75,000 guineas purchase for Louis Le Metayer’s Astute Bloodstock.
The mare has a yearling colt by Merchant Navy (Fastnet Rock) that topped the Magic Millions Perth Book 2 this year selling for $160,000 and a weanling colt by Blue Point (Shamardal). She was also covered by Capitalist (Written Tycoon) last spring.
