Amo again at Tattersalls

Having made headlines with his spending spree during Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale last week, Amo Racing’s Kia Joorabchian continued to add to his portfolio during Book 2 of the auction, combining with Al Shaqab to buy a Yeomanstown Stud-consigned filly by Coolmore shuttler St Mark’s Basilica (Siyouni) for 600,000gns (approx. AU$1,221,300).

Out of Listed winner Angelic Light (Dark Angel), the filly is a half-sister to winning pair Sturlasson (Invincible Army) and Fuji Mountain (Invincible Spirit).

Alex Elliott, who was doing the bidding, said he was delighted to secure the youngster, especially considering they lost out on securing a couple of lots earlier in the day.

“We underbid Richard Brown on the Night Of Thunder and Shadwell on the Kalpana part-sister,” said Elliott. “She is an exceptional physical out of a fast Dark Angel mare, who has bred two decent horses. St Mark’s is obviously an unknown but you like to think he has got every chance. It was the physical that was attractive, you like to think she could be a Royal Ascot filly.

“She is an early foal, she is very together, she was giving us all ‘Fairy Godmother’ vibes, let’s hope we can replicate that.”

She was bred by and sold by Yeomanstown Stud, who bought the dam at the Tattersalls Breeding Stock Sale for 165,000gns in December 2019.

“We need to keep adding horses if we think they are the right ones, but this market has got very very strong, which is fantastic for everyone. It is making it very hard to buy horses, everyone hones in on the best ones; it is just who is going to bid last,” Elliott continued.

Earlier in the afternoon, Australian-based agent John Foote etched his name on the buyers sheet, purchasing a filly by Dark Angel (Acclamation) for 100,000gns (approx. AU$203,572).

Catalogued as Lot 502 and offered by Carisbrooke Stud, the youngster is out of the unraced mare Well Yes (Galileo), who is herself a half-sister to dual top flight winner Just The Judge (Lawman).
