Anamoe front and centre at Racing’s Night of Champions
Godolphin’s nine-time Group 1 winner Anamoe (Street Boss) dominated the accolades during yesterday’s NSW Racehorse Owners Association Night of Champions awards ceremony, while Zac Lloyd claimed an historic Bart Cummings Medal.
The champion colt, who won six Group 1 contests, including the Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m), during the 2022/23 season, was named Champion Miler, Champion Middle Distance Horse and Champion Horse of the Year, emulating the feats of the extraordinary Winx (Street Cry) in 2017 and 2019.
Coolmore’s Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m)-winning two-year-old Shinzo (Snitzel) was named Champion Juvenile, with Everest (1200m) scorer Giga Kick (Scissor Kick), who also won Champion Sprinter, and dual Group 1-winning filly In Secret (I Am Invincible) sharing the Champion Three-Year-Old title.
Among the remaining equine winners, Durston (Sea The Moon) was crowned Champion Stayer after his Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m) success, while Opal Ridge (Rubick) and Icebath (Sacred Falls) won the Champion Country horse and Champion Provincial horse respectively. Atishu (Savabeel) and Sunshine In Paris (Invader) jointly won the Queen of the Autumn award.
After a stellar season in the saddle, apprentice rider Lloyd was the recipient of the prestigious Bart Cummings Medal with 81 votes, ending the 12-year stranglehold on the award by Chris Waller, who claimed the Champion Trainer title. Phylisha Doyle of the Waller stable won Strapper of the Year.
