Ascot on the table for Chain Of Lightning
Chain Of Lightning (Fighting Sun) could be headed for a trip to Royal Ascot this June, with co-trainer Peter Moody revealing they have accepted an invitation from Ascot to race.
The last-start TJ Smith Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) heroine will be sold at next month’s Magic Millions Broodmare Sales, and is then potentially going to be targeted at the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) at the royal meeting on June 22.
“She’s going to the broodmare sales in May and we’ve accepted an invitation to Ascot, so she’ll be sold under that proviso at the Magic Millions broodmare sale,” Moody, who trains in partnership with Katherine Coleman, told Racing.com.
It was just 12 years ago that Moody trained Black Caviar (Bel Esprit) to Royal Ascot glory in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes (then known as the Diamond Jubilee Stakes), but is not sure whether he will be the man to take Chain Of Lightning to Ascot after her sale.
Bred and raced by long-time Moody client Stuart Ramsey, the five-year-old daughter of Fighting Sun (Northern Meteor) defeated Bella Nipotina (Pride Of Dubai) by 0.4 lengths in the TJ Smith, and is set to tackle Saturday’s All Aged Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) at Randwick before the sale.
“As long as there is a bit of cut in the ground, she’ll go there with Rachel King to ride,” Moody said. “She’s got options in Brisbane and Adelaide if there is no rain.”
