Bennett goes the distance
Successful syndicator Nathan Bennett went further than he has ever gone before when he paid $600,000 for a Zoustar (Northern Meteor) colt during Friday’s session of the Magic Millions sale.
Bennett has enjoyed success with the progeny of Widden’s marquee stallion Zoustar, with the likes of Group 3-winning pair The Astrologist (Zoustar) and Zou Dancer (Zoustar) both having donned the well-known orange and black silks.
“That is the highest priced lot I have ever bought. We know our Zoustars and this colt is a big athletic colt and moves like a panther,” said Bennett.
“He’s got great confirmation, looks like he could get up and go early. He is just a really lovely colt who ticked every box.
“We were talking about him this morning and the word was that I said we try and knock horses off my list and I couldn’t knock this one off.
“That is why I went hard on him as I didn’t want to leave without him.
Offered by Widden, the filly is out of Group 3-winning mare She’s So High (I Am Invincible), who the operation purchased in conjunction with David Redvers for $600,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in 2019.
After a successful patch, headlined by Southport Tycoon’s (Written Tycoon) two Group 1s, Bennett said the results gave him the confidence to stretch for the Zoustar colt.
“We know we can pick a good horse and a fair few guys have had a bit of luck with Southport Tycoon so we grouped up together to try and get a band of colts and try and live that dream again,” he said.
“He was the pick of them and we weren’t leaving without him. We are ecstatic to get him. A full brother [Bravely] to him goes pretty well in Melbourne. [We’re] pretty excited.”
