Boomer buys I Am Invincible colt for end user
Another foal-shared weanling to sell during the opening session was an I Am Invincible half-brother to Group 2-winner Shades Of Rose (Rubick) and Group 3-winner Scallopini (Snitzel).
Boomer Bloodstock’s Craig Rounsell spent $360,000 on behalf of a client who intends to race the son of the record-breaking stallion.
Offered by Yarraman Park Stud, he is the sixth foal out of the unraced Rose Of Milan (More Than Ready), who has also produced six-time winner Red Rubi (Rubick).
“To find a colt like him whose dam’s not just produced one good horse, but multiple Group-winning progeny, and she’s still quite young, it’s very exciting,” Rounsefell said.
“He was bought for a client who is going to race him, so we’ll just grow him out and hopefully in the longer term it’ll end up cheaper [buying him now rather than] having to line up next year and buy a horse like that.”
The bloodstock agent said he and his client could not turn their back on the I Am Invincible colt despite the extra carrying costs.
“We are just looking at different options and, in this market, when an opportunity arises like that you need to take advantage because they don’t always come along, colts with that sort of pedigree,” he said.
“Hopefully he can turn into a good racehorse and hopefully into a stallion prospect.”
Yarraman Park’s Matt Scown had high expectations of a strong result for the colt before the horse was loaded on the truck.
“He was a foal share, he was here to be sold, there was spirited bidding on the horse as expected because the market here has been really healthy,” Scown said.
“Going through the inspection process here, all the faces were that that you’d want to see and were expecting to see and there was a really good vibe about the precinct here at Riverside all week.
“It felt good, the vettings came through to match the inspections and that’s always a big part.”
Rounsefell suggested the market was more robust than he was expecting.
“I thought coming in that the sentiment was a bit lower. Obviously the yearling sales this year, there were holes starting to appear especially in the middle to the bottom end,” he said.
“But I think today the strength of the market has surprised me, absolutely, and I think the numbers so far are reflecting that.”
