Brave Song followed his promising second-placed debut in a two-year-old maiden over course and distance on 5 July with an impressive win here.
The colt was eased from the outside barrier seven by Hugh Bowman, who settled him in second last place. As the field approached the home turn, Bowman took Brave Song wide and he hit the front at the 200 metre mark, then drew away to score easily and in a winning time of 1:10.28.
The colt is out of the winning Dr Fong (Kris S) mare Brave Choice, whose four foals to race, three have been winners.
Brave Choice herself is out of Group One winner Bravery (Zephyr Zip), making her a half-sister to Group Two winner Brave Prince (Kenmare) and Listed winner Valourina (Snippets), who is the dam of Group Two winners Timbourina (Timber County) and Media (Gilded Time), as well as Listed winner Cardinal Virtue (Elusive Quality).
Among the colt’s other relations are the Straight Six Handicap (Listed, 1200m) winner Tashbeeh (Commands) and Debutant Stakes (Listed, 1000m) winner Spring Warrior (Royal Academy).
Since foaling Brave Song, Brave Choice produced a colt by I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) named Painted Wolf, who was purchased by Edmonds Racing for $220,000 at this year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the Yarraman Park Stud draft.
Last season she foaled a filly by Hinchinbrook (Fastnet Rock) and was most recently served by the Newgate-based sire Super One (I Am Invincible).
Your Song (Fastnet Rock), who is currently leading first season sire in Australia by winners, will stand at Widden Stud this spring for a fee of $22,000 (inc GST).
