Maiden Of The Week

Brazilica (AUS) 3 f Redoute’s Choice – Brazilian Pulse by Captain Rio

Brazilica (Redoute’s Choice) looks a rising star for the Chris Waller stable after the three-year-old filly landed the Vancouver @ Coolmore Australia Maiden (1100m) on her debut at Randwick-Kensington on Wednesday.

She came into the races having won her two trials at Warwick Farm (800m) in January and Rosehill (900m) in early October, and she was impressive in seeing off her four rivals at Randwick-Kensington.

Settled in second place, she moved up nicely to the leader at the 600 metre mark, and eased to the front halfway down the straight before drawing away to score easily in a quick time of 34.83 for her last 600 metres.

Brazilica was bred by Arrowfield Group Pty Ltd out of the 2010 VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) heroine Brazilian Pulse (Captain Rio), whose previous two foals Zrinski and Tonsor – a sister and brother to Brazilica respectively – were also winners.

Brazilian Pulse is out of a half-sister to Shanawi (Caerleon), a Grade 2 handicap winner in the US, and the dam of French Group 3 winner Sharbayan (Doyoun), while Brazilica also shares her third dam with the Horris Hill Stakes (Gr 3, 7f) scorer Carnaby Street (Le Vie Dei Colori).

Brazilian Pulse also has a two-year-old Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) filly, yearling Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) filly who is a three-parts sister to her older siblings, and was covered by Maurice (Screen Hero) last year.

Brazilica was passed in for $325,000 after failing to meet her $400,000 reserve at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
