O: Clairden Racing
T: Tony McEvoy
B: Dr DJ O’Brien
W: Edward Manifold Stakes Group Two, 1600m, Flemington, 7 October
The Tony McEvoy-trained Bring Me Roses followed promising late-closing placings in Listed races at Morphettville to break her maiden at her fourth start and second attempt over 1600 metres at Flemington on Saturday.
Runner-up in the Morphettville Guineas (Listed, 1600m), Bring Me Roses was settled back in third place by Luke Currie and angled into clear running at the 300 metres mark.
The filly produced a brilliant finish from the back to post an impressive two and a quarter length victory over Hiyaam (High Chaparral) in second with Leather’n’lace (Hard Spun) half a length away in third.
The filly is out of the winning Freckled Face (Polish Patriot) making her a half-sister to Bobbie Lewis Quality (Gr 2, 1200m) winner and now stallion Face Value (Red Ransom). She is also a half-sister to the Listed-placed Face Of The Earth (Strategic) who is the dam of Group Three winner Diamond Earth (Choisir) and Listed runner-up Halle Rocks (Fastnet Rock).
Freckled Face, whose nine foals to race have all been winners, is a half-sister to Italian Group Three winner Don Raffael (Bikala), Listed winner Ivory Princess (Cure The Blues) and to the stakes-placed Whivory (Marscay) and Wolf (Marscay).
She was retired from stud duty in 2015 having produced a So You Think (High Chaparral) three-quarter brother to Bring Me Roses. He was subsequently purchased by Phoenix Thoroughbreds for $110,000 from the Coolmore Australia draft at this year’s Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.
