The Chris Waller-trained two-year-old Calculated scored a very promising debut win over 1200 metres at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Having only his second race start, he settled in sixth place in the early stages before Hugh Bowman switched him deep to gain a clear run at the leaders rounding the home turn.

The colt showed a smart turn of foot to lead at the 100 metres and displayed a good attitude to secure a head victory over the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained debutant Brave Song (Your Song).

Calculated is one of four named foals out of the dual stakes-winning mare Calchris (Commands), making him a half brother to three winners, including the Listed-winning filly Calcatta (Tale Of The Cat).

Further back, this is also the family of New Zealand Group Two winner Sequita (Sovereign Edition), herself the dam of the Group Two-winning pair Never Quit (Sir Tristram) and Super Sequel (Centaine).
