Cannot Be Serios (NZ)
Trained by Michael Freedman, Cannot Be Serios scored a good win on debut having finished fourth in a Randwick barrier trial over 730 metres on 20 September. The gelding went to the front from barrier four in the small seven-horse field under Tye Angland. Settling nicely in the lead, Cannot Be Serios then dashed clear on straightening and went on to score a good half-length victory.
Cannot Be Serios is the second named foal and the second winner out of the unraced Captain Rio mare Curella De Vil. She is a daughter out of the winning Danasinga (Danehill) mare Earnout who won over 1150 metres in New Zealand and produced for winners from eight foals. Cannot Be Serios’ third dam is the Listed winner and Group-placed Getting There (Jungle Boy), the dam of 11 winners including Group Three winner and New Zealand One Thousand Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) and New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) third Rhythm (Bakharoff) and fellow Group One-placed Tristachine (Sir Tristram). This is also the family of Hip’s Don’t Lie (Stravinsky) and her Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m) placed daughter Lake Geneva (Fastnet Rock).
Cruella De Vil was covered by Proisir (Choisir) having missed in 2015.
