Capitalist colt turns heads at Warwick Farm trials
There were a trio of juvenile heats conducted at the Warwick Farm trials on Friday, with the Bjorn Baker-trained Hayek (Capitalist) turning plenty of heads with a demolition job in his heat.
The colt took his trial record to two wins from as many outings when he defeated Buckeye (Zousain), a brother to Thursday’s Red Roses Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) winner Amelita, by a whopping 14.2 lengths under Rachel King in an 818-metre heat.
Hayek was purchased by his trainer and Clarke Bloodstock Pty Ltd for $300,000 out of the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
He is a half-brother to dual Group 1 winner Stratum Star (Stratum), Group 3 scorer Prague (Redoute’s Choice), and the Group-placed winner Serenade (Star Witness).
Elsewhere on the trials card, Ciaron Maher’s $825,000 yearling purchase Life After Love (I Am Invincible) also impressed with a length win over Sunrise Ridge (Star Turn) in her 818-metre heat under Jason Collett.
Bred by Rifa Mustang, Life After Love was purchased out of Sledmere Stud by her trainer at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and is the second foal out of the stakes-placed Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) mare Lady Loire.
The other juvenile trial on the card saw the Matthew Dale-trained Spirit of Boom (Sequalo) colt Bombay Boom run out a 1.7-length winner of an 818-metre contest, defeating Offenbach (Snitzel) in comfortable fashion.
A $130,000 purchase for his trainer and Kurrinda Bloodstock from the Eureka Stud draft at Book 2 of this year’s Magic Millions, Bombay Boom is the tenth living foal to come out of the Group 3-winning Zabeel (Sir Tristram) mare Steflara, meaning he is a half-brother to, amongst others, the Group-placed mare Glissade (Redoute’s Choice), who is the dam of Thousand Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Flit (Medaglia D’Oro) and granddam of three-time Group 1-winning colt Broadsiding (Too Darn Hot).
