Clean Energy (Zoustar), a $2.6 million yearling sister to three-time Group 1 winner Sunlight, was one of two six-figure juveniles to make a winning debut at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.
The daughter of Zoustar (Northern Meteor) was the highest-priced filly sold at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and, having won two and finished second in three trials, comfortably justified her favouritism in Wednesday’s 1000-metre event as she defeated Jellicious (Snitzel) by two lengths with a further 0.4 lengths back to Lady Shenandoah (Snitzel) in third.
“The heavy ten today was another variable we didn’t necessarily anticipate, but I don’t think we were able to see her best today, I think she will be a better filly on top of the ground,” Adrian Bott, who trains the filly in partnership with Gai Waterhouse, said.
“We backed her class knowing that there is plenty of depth there that she should be able to get the job done today.”
The Carter Stakes (Listed, 1200m) at Doomben on May 25 has been pencilled in as the next start for Clean Energy.
“We did have a two-year-old fillies’ race picked out for her in Queensland, the Carter Stakes in two-and-a-half weeks, so that’s the most likely option,” Bott said.
“If we want to capitalise on some two-year-old form for her, get her seasoned and experienced, there is going to be a lot more we can see in the spring from her.”
Also a sister to Group 3 scorer Sisstar, Clean Energy is out of the Group 3-winning mare Solar Charged (Charge Forward) who also produced Kadinsky Abstract, a three-time winner that was purchased by Coolmore’s Tom Magnier for a fee of $3 million at the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
Another yearling brother to Clean Energy sold at this year’s Inglis Easter for $850,000 to China Horse Club, Newgate Farm, Go Bloodstock, and Trilogy Racing, while Solar Charged is now back in foal to Zoustar after missing to him in 2022.
