Coolmore go to $1.15 million to snag Fashion Faux Pas
Two weeks after buying a Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) colt out of Fashion Faux Pas (Flatter), Coolmore swooped to buy the dual stakes-winning broodmare herself when she was knocked down to the powerhouse for $1.15 million at the Inglis January (Late) Online Sale.
Offered by Newgate on behalf of the James Harron Bloodstock broodmare partnership – in foal to Snitzel – Fashion Faux Pas sold to Coolmore’s Justin Carey just 14 days after Tom Magnier went to $1.7 million for her son at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
“I want to congratulate James Harron and his partners in Phil Merten, Belinda Bateman, the Doyle family and Love Racing on breeding such a stunning colt that we were so excited to buy a fortnight ago,’’ Carey said.
“We’re delighted to have bought this mare off them, a group we’ve had a great relationship with via the likes of King’s Legacy and the very exciting three-year-old Espionage.
“We look forward with great excitement to the future with Fashion Faux Pas. We have a high opinion of these fast American mares that seem to have good chemistry with Snitzel and it’s worked with the likes of Switzerland so hopefully we can enjoy similar success in the future with this mare.”
Second-top lot at the online sale, which realised in excess of $5.4 million, was the three-year-old filly National Code (Written Tycoon), who was purchased by Craig Keiswetter’s Ridgmont South Africa for $230,000.
Offered by her ownership group, National Code is an unraced half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Celestial Legend (Dundeel). The filly will remain in Australia to race before travelling to South Africa later this year where a decision will be made on whether she races on or becomes a broodmare.
Other notable results in the January Online Sale included the TFI-offered Can’t Recall One (Reliable Man), a Group 1-performed dual winner for Stuart Kendrick, who sold to CJ Thoroughbreds for $145,000, and fellow three-year-old Iconify (I Am Invincible) who was picked up by Maree Anderson for $100,000, having placed in one of his three starts for Ciaron Maher.
