Curtain comes down on Book 1
The Book 1 section of the 2025 Gold Coast Yearling Sale rounded out with a gross of over $205.43 million, an eight per cent drop on the $223,475,500 aggregate recorded at the end of Book 1 12 months earlier. The average finished at $272,507, a 2.4 per cent decrease on last year’s figure. The clearance rate finished at 81 per cent.
“I was thrilled months ago when I looked at the way the catalogue was lotted,” said Bowditch. “We had a great ending to the sale and our vendors knew that before they supported the sale. We felt as if vendors bought into the Friday night.
“A gross of $205 million exceeded our expectations. A clearance of 81 per cent is healthy and acceptable. We’ve had some very high clearance rates here in the past few years.
“An average of $270,000 is fantastic. We would have taken that and ran at the start of the week. It is an exceptional average which includes 13 one million dollar horses.”
Newgate Farm was crowned the leading vendor by aggregate, selling 52 yearlings for total receipts of $18,475 million, while Segenhoe Stud sold 32 lots for a leading average of $459,063.
Arrowfield resident Snitzel secured the leading sires title by average, with 27 of his yearlings making a total of $20,670,000, at an average of $765,556.
Selling will return to the Magic Millions complex with the Book 2 section of the Gold Coast Yearling Sale commencing at 3.30pm (QLD time) on Sunday and will conclude on Monday. All Book 2 yearlings are available for inspection from Saturday.
“We encourage buyers to get involved in Book 2. There’s some outstanding prospects to go under the hammer and this sale has an incredible record of producing stars – recent graduates including Arabian Summer, Abounding, Far Too Easy and Melbourne Cup winner Knight’s Choice,” Bowditch said.
