Having his second start after finished second on debut in the Inglis Nursery (RL, 1000m) at Randwick on 17 December to She Will Reign (Manhattan Rain), Diamond Tathagata was smartly away from barrier five in the nine-horse field and shared the lead but was caught deep. Asked to quicken on straightening, he lifted well in the closing stages to score a narrow but tough victory.

Diamond Tathagata is the fourth living foal out of his dam Maltese (Tale Of The Cat), a three-time winner who has produced four winners from as many foals to race with Diamond Tathagata her first stakes winner.

Maltese is a daughter of the Listed winner Marwell Lady (Lord Seymour), the dam of nine winners headed by the LIsted winner Jestarella Boy (Rory’s Jester).

Maltese Boy was covered last November by the Kooringal Stud-based sire The Brothers War (War Front) having produced a colt by that same sire last October. She also has a yearling colt by Shrapnel (Charge Forward).
