Earth Angel, put up a really good effort in winning here on debut. She broke well from barrier seven and was settled back in seventh place by Damien Oliver, three wide with cover. She was pushed along nearing the home turn, and responded well going in between runners at the 200 metre mark and took the lead in the closing stages to pull away with a half a length victory.
Earth Angel is the fifth foal and third winner out of the multiple Group One winner Miss Finland (Redoute’s Choice),making her a half-sister to the Caulfield 1,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Stay With Me (Street Cry) and the Listed-placed gelding Woodbine (Hussonet).
Further back, Earth Angel is from the same family as Group Three winner Moon Cactus (Kris), who is the dam of Group One winner and now sire Doyen (Sadler’s Wells), Group Two winner Hatha Anna (Sadler’s Wells) and Listed winner Ocean Of Storms (Arazi), while the filly is also related to US Grade One winner Miss World (Bernstein).
In 2015 Miss Finland produced a colt by Arrowfield Stud’s first season sire Dundeel (High Chaparral), which was purchased by Craig Rounsefell of Boomer Bloodstock for $900,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, though she slipped to Dundeel in 2016.
Meanwhile, this was the first winner for Arrowfield Stud’s Dubai World Cup (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Animal Kingdom (Leroidesanimaux).
