Eddy appointed chair of Racing Victoria

After months with an acting Chair, Tim Eddy was officially announced as the new Racing Victoria (RV) chair and has vowed to ‘unite’ and ‘actively engage’ racing stakeholders.

Victorian racing minister Anthony Carbines confirmed on Friday the appointment of Tim Eddy as chair of the RV board with Sharon McCrohan elected as his deputy.

Both had unanimous support of the RV Board after two new members Tim Rourke and Mark Player were announced as new members last week.

Eddy takes over as chair from Mike Hirst who was in an acting role and leaves the board at the end of the month.

Carbines confirmed Eddy’s appointment for the duration of his current term until December 2027 and McCrohan until September 2025.

With over 40 years’ experience leading and managing professional services, risk management and governance operations Eddy has a long-held passion for racing having owned a substantial number of horses.

An RV director since December 2019, Eddy has served as chair of the RV audit and risk sub-committee, RV and country RV steering committee and the Equine Welfare Advisory Council.

McCrohan, who has served on the board since 2017, has a career spanning over 30 years as a journalist and strategic adviser to Federal and State government leaders and cabinets, private sector boards, sporting bodies, charities and government agencies.

During her tenure as a RV director, McCrohan has served as a member of the Racing Integrity and Equine Welfare Sub-Committee and the Member Consultative Committee.

Eddy said he loves the sport of thoroughbred racing and is honoured to be entrusted with the role of being RV Chair.

“My first priority will be to actively engage with our stakeholders to keep the focus on the opportunities and challenges ahead that unite us,” Eddy said.

“Success can only come if we work together. A strong and vibrant Victorian racing industry is in the best interests of every fan of the sport and the tens of thousands of people whose livelihoods depend on it.

“There are many items on the Board’s agenda. We will go after every one of them with a shared goal of ensuring Victorian racing is a leader that delivers jobs, economic benefits and, above all, enjoyment.”
