Element Hill properties on the market

Queensland’s renowned Element Hill Stud properties where Hong Kong superstar Golden Sixty (Medaglia D’Oro) and Australian Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy (Red Ransom) were raised are officially on the market.

The 64-hectare Element Hill Stud property and neighbouring Hutchins family owned 186-hectare Allawah farm at Innisplain in the booming growth corridor near Beaudesert in South East Queensland are being offered through Donovan & Co and Magic Millions.

The heavily equine-focused Element Hill Stud and the more diverse Allawah, located diagonally across the road, can be purchased separately or together through a written expression of interest process which closes at 3pm on Friday, June 7.

In close proximity to fellow thoroughbred operations Glenlogan Park and Telemon Thoroughbreds, the properties are one hour and 20 minutes’ drive from the Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Element Hill’s bloodstock interests of 14 weanlings and 28 broodmares, race fillies and yearlings, including a Wootton Bassett (Iffraaj) half-sister to Golden Sixty, are being dispersed unreserved at the Magic Millions National Sale on the Gold Coast late next month.

The smaller Element Hill Stud property, on 588 Innisplain Road, enjoys Logan River and Running Creek frontage with first-class custom-designed equine facilities.

An exquisite custom-built six-bedroom home and four-bedroom manager’s residence is also on Element Hill property.

Allawah has about 70 acres of irrigated lucerne, an original homestead and two two-bedroom staff accommodation lodges. It also has equine infrastructure, including a ten-horse stable and vet crush, a hay shed and cattle yards.

Donovan & Co’s Clint Donovan said the Hutchins were genuine sellers and the two titles provided potential buyers with the ability to determine the scale of their investment.

“It could be a boutique operation where they’d be happy having 40 mares and foals on Element Hill Stud, that could be done, or if somebody wants to up the commercial scale like the Hutchins family have and run more mares and a larger operation, then they can by purchasing both farms [in one transaction],” Donovan told ANZ Bloodstock News.

“Neither is codependent on the other, they’re both individually very good opportunities.

“Clearly, Allawah has more land and has the lucerne capabilities as well as other cropping and Element Hill Stud itself has the beautiful house and all the high-end stud farm features.”

Donovan has no doubt a horse farm buyer who ends up with the Element Hill Stud parcel of land, but “where they come from remains to be seen”.

“It is a purpose-built equine facility at Element Hill Stud. Whether the buyer comes from outside the thoroughbred industry, we hope it’s not given its reputation for producing Golden Sixty and Typhoon Tracy, but it could be used for campdrafting, cutting, showjumping and other equine pursuits,” he said.

“It would suit any discipline and is perfectly located with vets just around the corner. There’s a large equine population and it’s not just conducive to thoroughbreds, so it’ll be interesting to see [what transpires].”

As for Allawah, Donovan believes it offers a multitude of options for prospective buyers.

“It is a standalone large parcel of land that would make a great stud cattle property, a commercial cattle property, a lucerne farm and/or some sort of equine farm like the Hutchins family have it running now,” he said.
