Entriviere to be offered on Gavelhouse Plus after injury
Group 1-winning mare Entriviere (Tavistock) has been retired and will be offered to the market via Gavelhouse Plus after a career-ending injury.
The Te Akau-owned mare, winner of the Railway Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) earlier this year in her native New Zealand, finished sixth on her return this season in the Kerikeri Cup (1100m), but scans have since revealed a fetlock issue that would have seen her sidelined for a lengthy spell.
“We had not been entirely happy with Entriviere following her resuming run and a nuclear bone scan has revealed fetlock issues that would see her sidelined from racing for some time,” said Te Akau CEO David Ellis.
“Even with this approach, there would be an element of risk with a return to racing and that is untenable to Te Akau and to her owners – her wellbeing is our number one priority.”
A six-year-old, Entriviere retires with seven wins from 16 starts, including success in the Sheraco Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at Kembla Grange last year.
Bred by Kevn Gray, Entriviere was a private purchase for Te Akau in September 2020.
The mare won five of her first six starts, including the Concorde (Gr 3, 1200m) and Kings Plate (Gr 3, 1200m) at Ellerslie in early 2021, before her successful Australian campaign.
She earned a Group 1 placing in the Waikato Sprint (Gr 1, 1400m) earlier this year, before again heading across the Tasman, running an eye-catching third in the Doomben 10,000 (Gr 1, 1200m) before disappointing in the Kingsford-Smith Cup (Gr 1, 1300m).
“After Karyn [Fenton-Ellis] syndicated her, Entriviere won her first two starts. I clearly remember when she burst onto the scene on Karaka Million night in the Concorde,” Ellis said.
“She really announced her arrival in style and what an impact she has made in the 19 months since – her owners just love her, they’ve had a terrific journey with her.”
The fifth named foal out of Golan (Spectrum) mare Marcey’s Belt, Entriviere is a half-sister to the stakes-placed Satin Belt (Power).
Marcey’s Belt is herself a half-sister to Karaka Millions (RL, 1200m) winner Xiong Feng (Iffraaj) and Light Fingers Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) winner Adrift (Zabeel).
Entriviere will now be offered for sale ahead of this year’s breeding season, with Te Akau hoping she will follow in the path of the success of nine-time Group 1 winner Avantage (Fastnet Rock), who last year sold to Coolmore for a world-record online price of NZ$4.1 million on Gavelhouse Plus.
“She is a very valuable mare, the winner of Group races on both sides of the Tasman, and I am certain she will be a highly attractive and sought after broodmare proposition,” Ellis said.
“With the southern breeding season due to commence on September 1, we expect a high degree of interest from international breeders and studs.”
