Extreme Choice to stand for private fee in 2021
Newgate Farm announced yesterday that this season’s leading first season and Golden Slipper- (Gr 1, 1200m) winning sire Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt) will stand for a private fee in 2021.
Extreme Choice, who has five winners to his name and leads both the first season and two-year-old sire standings this term, stood for a fee of $22,000 last season.
His success this season can largely be attributed to the exploits of Golden Slipper-winning colt Stay Inside, who will stand alongside Extreme Choice in the future after Newgate bought into him earlier this year.
The Richard and Michael Freedman-trained juvenile was one of just 48 live foals from the first crop of Extreme Choice, which also included Pago Pago Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) second Tiger Of Malay and dual Listed runner-up Extreme Warrior.
On the decision to stand Extreme Choice for a private fee, Newgate’s managing director Henry Field said: “We have worked out through experience and advice that Extreme Choice is most effective in the shed when we cover a restricted book.
“As a result, his book is limited to his shareholders. We will be doing a select number of foal shares as well and I would encourage breeders to put up their better mares for this opportunity.
“He is a freak, his stats are off the charts. He is going to make a strong mark on our industry over the next decade or so and we are delighted to have already secured Australia’s best two-year-old Stay Inside to stand alongside his father after his racing career.”
Xtremetime the latest winner for Extreme Choice
Extreme Choice’s credentials were further advertised yesterday as the John Thompson-trained Xtremetime (2 f ex Peace Time by War Front) became his fifth individual winner from just 12 runners.
The filly narrowly landed the Hyland Race Colours Handicap (1200m) for two-year-old fillies at Canterbury on her second start, having finished fifth on debut at Randwick on Boxing Day.
Bought by Joe O’Neill’s Prime Thoroughbreds for $160,000 out of the Newgate Farm draft at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Xtremetime, who defeated Socialist (Capitalist) by a nose yesterday, is held in high regard at home.
Winning jockey Brenton Avdulla said: “She gave me a great feel. JT (John Thompson) was confident, he told me [on Tuesday] ‘you’re on a nice filly tomorrow’, so I rode her confidently. It’s unlike John to do that, so when he rings you up and he’s full of confidence like that it gives you plenty of confidence.
“She got a bit lost half way up [the straight] but it helped her when Jason [Collett, riding Socialist] got to me and through the line she actually got the better of him. She’s a nice filly, very raw, with a good upside.”
Avdulla expects more to come from the filly and added: “When John presents these horses first-up there is always going to be improvement.”
Extreme Choice, winner of the Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) and Moir Stakes (Gr 1, 1000m) during an eight-start race career, is the only stakes winner out of Hussonet (Mr. Prospector) mare Extremely, who also produced the Listed-placed Raise No Doubt, a brother to Extreme Choice.
Earlier this month, Newgate announced that Golden Rose Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) runner-up North Pacific (Brazen Beau), who was the top-priced Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale purchase in 2019, will join their 2021 roster for an introductory fee of $22,000 (inc. GST).
The fees for the remainder of Newgate’s stallion roster will be announced next week. These include current Australian leading first season sire by winners, Capitalist (Written Tycoon), Deep Field (Northern Meteor) and his Group 2-winning son Cosmic Force, and dual Group 1 winner Russian Revolution (Snitzel).
