The Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald-trained Firm Agreement (Yes Yes Yes) could be headed for Saturday week’s Gloaming Stakes (Gr 3, 1800m) at Rosehill after he broke his maiden at the second time of asking at Newcastle on Tuesday.
Having run second on debut in a 1350-metre contest at the same track on September 3, the three-year-old gelding made no mistake on the step up to 1500 metres on Tuesday, running out a 0.4-length scorer over Le Chocolat (Ocean Park) under Tom Sherry to line up a potential crack at the Group 3 contest, a race that could proceed a run in Randwick’s Spring Champion Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) on October 26.
“He’s a progressive sort and we think he will get over further,” Archibald said post-race.
“We’re looking to the Gloaming Stakes on Saturday week and then hopefully to the Spring Champion Stakes.”
A son of 2019 The Everest (1200m) hero Yes Yes Yes (Rubick), Firm Agreement was originally purchased for $125,000 by Redwall Bloodstock out of Coolmore Stud at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale, before then being resold to Triple Crown Syndications out of the Widden Stud draft for $140,000 at last year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
He is the first winner out of the Group 2-performed dual winner Money Magic (So You Think), who herself is a half-sister to the stakes winner Moqueen (Uncle Mo), as well as to the dam of fellow stakes scorer Malice (Teofilo). Further back this is the same family as Group 1-winning pair Comin’ Through (Fastnet Rock) and Criterion (Sebring).
Money Magic has an unnamed two year-old colt by Yes Yes Yes and is due to foal again to the Coolmore resident this spring.
