Frankel mare tops Inglis Digital Sale
Romantic Road, a four-year-old daughter of champion sire Frankel (Galileo) out of Canadian Grade 1 winner Miss Keller (Montjeu), and Seagrove (Exceed And Excel) have topped the latest Inglis Digital sale, which concluded yesterday.
The pair sold for $150,000, with the unraced Romantic Road purchased by Emma Smith on behalf of Valencia Park in New Zealand, with a decision set to be made on her maiden cover.
The mare, who was consigned by Waratah Thoroughbreds, is a sister/half-sister to Japanese-bred Australian winners New Horizons (Frankel) and Deadly Impact (Deep Impact).
Romantic Road’s brother was purchased for €360,000 (approx. AU$558,736) by Peter and Ross Doyle at the Goffs Orby Sale last month.
“We bought her basically due to her pedigree, she’s a really valuable broodmare prospect especially considering her brother sold for €360,000,’’ Smith said.
“She may well race yet, she only trialled in September, so while it’s unlikely, it’s still TBC but she’ll go to Brian Smith’s property in Queensland and the new owners will decide after that.”
Seagrove was purchased from Swettenham Stud by Orbis Bloodstock in foal to Toronado (High Chaparral).
“We bought the mare as a trade mare, got some beautiful foals out of her, put her back in foal to Toronado and are thrilled with today’s price,’’ Matthews said.
Seagrove, a $130,000 buy for Swettenham in 2019, has produced winner Lord Pierro (Pierro), while her colt by Toronado sold for $145,000 at this year’s Inglis Premier sale. She has a yearling by the stallion which will be consigned at the Melbourne sale next year.
A clearance rate of 82 per cent fuelled aggregate receipts of $2.2 million for the Inglis Digital October (Early) Sale.
