The Ciaron Maher-trained Froebel Star (Zousain) broke her maiden at the third time of asking when she landed a 1300-metre maiden at Warwick Farm on Monday.
Having finished second in her first start at the Gold Coast in January when chasing home subsequent Reisling Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) third Too Darn Lizzie (Too Darn Hot) in the $500,000 Magic Millions Debut (1000m), Froebel Star then finished sixth in the Lonhro Plate (Listed, 1000m) beaten just two lengths by the winner Castanya (Capitalist).
Dropped back in grade for Monday’s assignment, the filly was ridden by James McDonald and came out on top in a close finish to defeat The Three Hundred (I Am Invincible) by 0.1 lengths, providing Widden Stud-based first-season sire Zousain (Zoustar) with his sixth individual winner.
El Castello (Castelvecchio) came home a further 1.2 lengths further back in third.
Purchased by her trainer and David Redvers Bloodstock from the Raheen Stud draft for $320,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale last year, Froebel Star is a daughter of the stakes-placed winner Germayne Lass (Stromberg Carlson), making her a half-sister to three further winners.
Zousain has a pair of colts catalogued at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, which begins its two-day run in Sydney on Sunday.
