Godolphin to send mares to I Am Invincible

Godolphin will make the most of its champion stallions Lonhro (Octagonal) and Exceed And Excel (Danehill) by supporting the pair with as many of its high-class broodmares as possible while the aging sires are still capable of covering.

Lonhro and Exceed And Excel, aged 22 and 20 respectively, continue to produce high-class racehorses and are also noted sire of sires.

The latter, in particular, has had a stellar past two seasons with his progeny on the track including the likes of valuable Group 1-winning colts Exceedance, Bivouac and Microphone.

Godolphin sent mares to Arrowfield Stud’s champion sire Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice), including Astern (Medaglia d’Oro) and Alizee’s (Sepoy) half-sister Leopard (Animal Kingdom) in 2019, and also used other outside stallions.

Among them was Yarraman Park Stud’s I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit), with Godolphin sending Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Earthquake (Exceed And Excel), the dam of Alizee and Astern in Essaouira (Exceed And Excel) and four-time Group 1 winner Guelph (Exceed And Excel).

The global operation also sent mares to Coolmore’s Pierro (Lonhro) and Fastnet Rock (Danehill) in 2019.

“We have only made bookings to I Am Invincible at this point and we’re unlikely to change that. We’re in a good position with two very good proven horses who are in the twilight of their careers and while we’ve got them we want to use them as much as we can.” Godolphin Australia managing director Vin Cox told ANZ Bloodstock News at the Magic Millions National Sale.

“We’ve also got a lot of other young stallions who we have a lot of faith in. We’ve got three first season horses (Too Darn Hot, Blue Point and Microphone) that I would arguably say are the envy of other stallion farms right around the country and we want to utilise them as well.”
