Grand Parkview Stud homebred Good Sort showed significant improvement and overcame a wide run to score on her second start this preparation at Canterbury on Wednesday.
Making her third race start, the Chris Waller-trained filly proved too good in a maiden handicap over 1250 metres, scoring by 0.4 lengths over her stablemate and B2B Thoroughbreds homebred debutante filly Rybakina (Snitzel). Godolphin’s Cinsault (Brazen Beau) ran third, a further 0.3 lengths away on what was her fourth start.
“She was fantastic, it was a good tough win,” said winning rider Zac Lloyd, who was on board on race day for the first time.
“She got into a really lovely rhythm even out where she was.”
Out of winning Haradasun (Fusaichi Pegasus) mare Canossa, Good Sort is a half-sister to the multiple winners Prospectus (Excelebration) and Quality Approach (Dawn Approach). Canossa was covered by Artorius (Flying Artie) last November.
In landing Tuesday’s race, Good Sort became the ninth first crop winner for Newgate Farm’s Tassort, who will stand for an increased $38,500 (inc GST) this year. He is also the sire of ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) winner Manaal, the stakes-placed pair Ameena and Ad Astra, as well as the stakes-performed Astapor and Onemoretwomany.
