Half-sister to the dam of Switzerland in foal to Too Darn Hot on a SH cover added to Tattersalls Mares Sale
Blessed Truly (Souper Speedy), a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Ms Bad Behavior (Blame), dam of this year’s dominant Coolmore Stud Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Switzerland (Snitzel), is an exciting wild card added to next month’s Tattersalls December Mares Sale.
Adding to the mare’s huge appeal is the fact she will go through the ring in foal on southern hemisphere time to Darley’s sire sensation and Australia’s reigning Champion First-Season Sire Too Darn Hot (Dubawi).
Blessed Truly is one of two wild cards announced by Tattersalls carrying southern hemisphere covers to Too Darn Hot, with Imperium Sale set to consign unraced mare Moraless (Churchill), who was covered by Darley’s star son of Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) on October 21. The pair join three other mares in the catalogue who will also be offered in foal to Too Darn Hot on southern hemisphere covers.
The Canadian-bred Blessed Truly landed the Muskoka Stakes (Listed, 6.5f) in 2019 and has produced two foals to date, a filly named Really Blessed (Practical Joke) in 2023, while this year she foaled a filly by Maclean’s Music (Distorted Humor).
The Coolmore and partners-raced Switzerland stamped himself as one of the best three-year-old colts in the country when he followed up his easy Roman Consul Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) win with his victory in the stallion-making contest at Flemington on Derby Day earlier in the month.
Fittingly, the other dominant colt in the age group is multiple Group 1-winning two-year-old Broadsiding, a son of Too Darn Hot, who advertised his talents as a three-year-old with a victory in the Golden Rose Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m), while he also finished a solid third behind Via Sistina (Fastnet Rock) in her record-breaking Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) triumph last month.
Broadsiding headlines 24 winners and five stakes southern hemisphere-bred winners for Too Darn Hot in Australia and breeders will be keen to get their hands on mares carrying his stock on southern hemisphere time, given he did not return to Darley’s Hunter Valley base in 2024.
Such is his dominance and extraordinary talent in the breeding shed, Too Darn Hot had been originally touted to stand his fifth season at Kelvinside for $110,000 (inc GST), which would have placed him as the seventh-highest advertised stallion standing in the country.
Moraless, the other wild card entry, is from a successful family, being out of Mora Bai (Indian Ridge), making her a half-sister to Irish-bred Moonee Valley Gold Cup (Gr 2, 2500m) winner Hunting Horn (Camelot) and fellow Group 2 scorer David Livingstone (Galileo).
Mora Bai herself is a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner and breed-shaping sire High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells) and Black Bear Island (Sadler’s Wells), whose best win came in Group 2 company.
“Too Darn Hot has made an amazing start to his stud career in both hemispheres and it’s a great opportunity for Australian and New Zealand buyers to buy a mare in foal to him,” Jason Singh, marketing manager and associate director at Tattersalls, told ANZ Bloodstock News.
“There are five in the December Mares Sale including the sister to the dam of recent Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Switzerland and we anticipate interest will be very high in them.”
The published catalogue includes three other mares who will be offered in foal to Too Darn Hot on southern hemisphere time; Zoinnocent (Zoffany) (Lot 1367), a Group 3-placed sister to Group 3 scorer Hannibal Barca, Listed winner Tango (No Nay Never) (Lot 1451) and the dual Group 3-placed winner You Send Me (Starspangledbanner) (Lot 1476).
These five mares join the three lots in foal to Too Darn Hot on southern hemisphere time confirmed for the highly anticipated collaboration between Tattersalls Online and Inglis Digital and there are more exciting entries set to be announced for that sale in the coming weeks.
The Tattersalls December Mares Sale begins its four-day run on December 2, with two Sceptre Sessions set to take place on the opening day and Tuesday, December 3. The Tattersalls Online December Sale will take place on 11-12 December.
