Coolmore has a serious Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m) contender emerge from the pack after Home Affairs (I Am Invincible) broke his maiden with a polished performance in the Silver Slipper Stakes (Gr 2, 1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
The premier lead-up race to the showpiece two-year-old event, the Silver Slipper Stakes has a remarkable recent record of producing subsequent Golden Slipper winners, with last year’s victor Farnan (Not A Single Doubt) joining She Will Reign (Manhattan Rain), Mossfun (Mossman) and Pierro (Lonhro) as Silver Slipper winners in the last ten years that went on to claim the Group 1 prize.
Home Affairs, a son of Yarraman Park Stud’s I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit), announced himself a stakes-winner-in-waiting when narrowly beaten by Zethus (Exceed And Excel) in the Canonbury Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) on debut and was always in control of the Silver Slipper, making use of his inside barrier to race on the speed before going on to defeat Rocket Tiger (Cluster) by a neck.
“We have always known he was a talented horse, looking at him, he certainly looks the part, he has got a great attitude and is doing everything right,” said winning trainer Chris Waller in the aftermath of the race.
“We had to use him up a bit early, which was not ideal, but at the same time it is a ticket into the Golden Slipper and an important stepping stone for a horse like him with his pedigree.”
An $875,000 purchase for Coolmore from the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale last year, Home Affairs will be looking to provide the global breeding giant with a first win in the Golden Slipper on March 20, having secured his spot in the race with this win.
The second foal out of Flying Spur (Danehill) mare Miss Interiors, Home Affairs is a half-brother to Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) runner-up Aysar (Deep Field), while Miss Interiors herself is a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner and sire Russian Revolution (Snitzel).
Miss Interiors has a Dundeel (High Chaparral) colt on the ground and has been put in foal to the Arrowfield sire once again, while at this year’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale she has a yearling by leading first season sire Capitalist (Written Tycoon) listed to sell as Lot 428.
