Jessamin put up a good effort to win on debut over 1000 metres at Warwick Farm having finished second in a Randwick barrier trial over 738 metres on 15 November. Ridden by Tommy Berry, the daughter of Stratum (Redoute’s Choice) began well from barrier three and was eased to settle fifth in the seven-horse field. Jessamin improved deep rounding the home turn, sprinted quickly and hit the front with 100 metres left to travel. She then went on to score by three quarters of a length.
Jessamin is the third foal out of Venture (Elusive Quality) and becomes her dam’s first winner. Her second dam is the unplaced Abbotswood (Sir Tristram), the dam of five winners from as many to race headed by the Listed winner Tantra (Elusive Quality) and stakes-placed Elusive Wonder (Elusive Quality) who produced the Leon and Troy Corstens-trained Dequetteville Stakes (Listed, 1050m) winner Modern Wonder (Snitzel). Jessamin’s third dam is the Group Three winner Freedom Fields (Bluebird), the grandam of the stakes winners Liberty Rose (Royal Academy), and Kanzan (Commands).
Venture produced one further foal after Jessamin, a filly by Lonhro (Octagonal), before she died in December last year.
