Juvenile trial double for Tulloch Lodge
Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott sent out two winners of the four juvenile trials at Randwick-Kensington on Monday where Flying Artie (Artie Schiller) colt Lancelot Du Lac got the Tulloch Lodge ball rolling.
Having his second trial in the 850-metre heat, Lancalot Du Lac scored a 0.4-length win over $1.6 million colt Guardsman (Extreme Choice), the most expensive yearling by Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt) sold this year, posting a time of 52.15 seconds. The winner’s stablemate Mind Over Matter (Written By) was the same margin adrift in third.
A homebred for Go Bloodstock, Lancelot Du Lac is the fourth foal and first colt out of blue hen Listed winner Miss Debutante (Fastnet Rock), making him the half-brother to the Waterhouse and Bott-trained Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Lady Of Camelot (Written Tycoon), as well as Group winning fillies Queen Of The Ball (I Am Invincible) and Platinum Jubilee (Zoustar), the latter selling to Coolmore Stud for $3.5 million at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale.
Later in the morning Tulloch Lodge’s Exceed And Excel (Danehill) filly Ferradura completed her second trial in winning style, denying stablemate Saytara (Written Tycoon) over the 850 metres by just 0.1 lengths in a time of 51.64 seconds. Dundeel (High Chaparral) filly Dundeel Flyer was two and a half lengths behind the pair in third.
Bred and retained by Glentree Pastoral, Ferradurra is the fourth foal out of Cheering (War Front), a daughter of Listed winner Kissed (Galileo), who is a half-sister to Epsom Derby (Gr 1, 1m 4f) winner Pour Moi (Montjeu). Last spring, Cheering delivered a colt by St Mark’s Basilica (Siyouni).
The Michael Freedman-trained Wootton Bassett (Iffraaj) colt Pallaton improved for his second-placed finish in his first trial last month to come out and win the first juvenile heat of the day.
He led easily under a hold and kept up the gallop to win by 0.3 lengths over the late closing Capitalist (Written Tycoon) colt Quietly Arrogant, covering the 850 metres in 51.54 seconds. Waterhouse and Bott’s Graphic Sight (Lucky Vega) was third, 1.9 lengths further back.
Pallaton is a homebred for Anthony Gow Gates and is a half-brother to four winners, being out of the stakes winner Anevay (Exceed And Excel), herself a half-sister to Group 2 winner Krupt (Flying Spur).
The John Thompson-trained Deep Affection (Street Boss) made full use of the inside alley to lead all the way for Zac Lloyd at her second trial, winning by 0.7 lengths over Miss Freelove (Tassort) in the quickest of the four heats, stopping the clock at 51.19 seconds, covering the final 600 metres in 34.81. Satin’s Legacy (King’s Legacy) filled the placings, 1.1 lengths behind.
Deep Affection was a $20,000 Inglis Classic purchase for her trainer from Silverdale Farm and is the first named foal out of Smitten, a winning half-sister by Lonhro (Octagonal) to Group 3 scorer Astoria (Medaglia D’Oro).
