Kaching followed his promising late-closing second in a Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap (1300m) at Geelong Synthetic on 22 July with an impressive win at his second start.
He settled in fifth place on the rails from his inside barrier (1) under jockey Nick Hall, behind a solid tempo, before moving up well at the home turn. He hit the front at the 200 metres and then raced away to win by three and a half lengths against older horses. He looks to have a bright future.
Kaching is one of four foals to race, who are all winners, out of Desert Sun (Green Desert) mare Sun Song which makes him a half-brother to 2013 Gold Coast Bracelet (Listed, 1800m) placegetter Zombie Dancer (Encosta De Lago).
The Listed-placed Sun Song is herself a three-quarter sister to three-time Australian Horse of the Year and four-time New Zealand Horse of the Year, Sunline (Desert Sun), who won both the Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) and Doncaster Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) twice.
Kaching’s unraced second dam Sunny Song (Simonstad) is one of nine named foals produced by the Listed-placed Songline (Western Symphony).
Dam of Kaching, Sun Song, foaled another colt by So You Think (High Chaparral) in 2014 but missed to Declaration Of War (War Front) in 2015. She was served by Dissident (Sebring) on a September cover in 2015.
