Kingofwallstreet (Dundeel) broke his maiden in great style last Saturday when landing the Caulfield Classic (Gr 3, 2000m).

In a race that was fuelled with drama from before the off after the well-fancied Red Aces (Dundeel) was scratched at the barriers, Kingofwallstreet prevailed in a tight finish to beat China Sea (Fastnet Rock) by 0.1 lengths with Keeneland (Almanzor) a further 0.2 lengths adrift in third.

Following the victory, winning trainer Matt Cumani confirmed the colt would now press on to the VRC Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) at Flemington on November 2.

“It was a crawl all the way around and I was very worried about it,” Cumani said. “We thought that might happen. It happened last year as well and we wanted to try and be a bit closer this year, but Mick Dee rode him beautifully and great to get the win.

“He’s a tough little horse and it’s great to see him do well. I think he’ll relish the [Derby] trip. It was a good test today to see that he can break well and put himself in a decent spot.

“It was good to see him on some soft ground. I don’t think we’ll get that on Derby Day, but we could, and at least now we know he’ s versatile.

“The Derby is a race we try and target. I was keen to come here after his last performance. It gave me the confidence to try something a bit harder. I thought there was no point in going for a maiden.”

Bred by Avesta No 1, Kingofwallstreet was bought by McKeever Bloodstock and his trainer for $120,000 from the Rathmore Lodge draft at the 2023 edition of the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale Sale.

He is out of the unraced Fastnet Rock (Danehill) mare Our Girl Raquie, who was bought by  Avesta Bloodstock and Rathmore Bloodstock for $120,000 at the 2020 National Broodmare Sale when carrying Tara Rani (Brave Smash), who is among the mare’s four winners.

Further down the page this is the same breed-shaping family as Group 1 winner Platinum Scissors (Danehill), Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) and Manhattan Rain (Encosta De Lago). Dundeel is standing at Arrowfield Stud for a fee of $88,000 (inc GST).
