Let Me Sleep On It (AUS) 2 f Manhattan Rain – Cheyenne Sue by Zizou
With three seconds in her five runs leading into the Redoute’s Choice Stakes (Listed, 1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday, the promising Let Me Sleep On It (Manhattan Rain) made her maiden win a stakes win with a dominant victory.
She began quickly from barrier seven under jockey Stephen Baster, attempted to lead three wide in the early stages but was unsuccessful, though she eventually raced in a share of a lead from around the 750 metres mark.
Approaching the last corner she was a half length from the lead and took over at the head of affairs around 300 metres out, and when Baster asked for more and she responded well, breaking clear at the 100 metres to win convincingly by two and a quarter lengths from Illuminaire (All Too Hard). The filly, who fetched $60,000 from the draft of Turangga Farm at the 2017 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, is the only foal to race to date out of the placed Zizou (Fusaichi Pegasus) mare Cheyenne Sue, who is a half-sister to the Group One-winning champion Australian two-year-old filly Headway (Charge Forward).
Cheyenne Sue missed to All Too Hard (Casino Prince) in 2016 before producing a colt by the same stallion the following year, though she missed to Yarraman Park’s Hinchinbrook (Fastnet Rock) this year.
Let Me Sleep On It’s second dam is the Group Two placegetter Chatelaine (Flying Spur), her third dam Midnight Renegade (Brigand) produced 11 winners from 12 foals to race, while this is also the same family as stakes placegetter Late Night Fun (Handy Proverb).
She is one of 12 stakes winners for Blue Gum Farm-based stallion Manhattan Rain (Encosta De Lago), who will stand for a fee of $19,250 (inc GST) this year.
