Let’srollthedice (Dundeel) will have the chance to step up to greater targets after cruising to a maiden win at Bendigo on Tuesday.
The Danny O’Brien-trained colt was well backed early in the day for the Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate over 1100 metres, shortening from $11 into the $4.80 second favourite and, after jockey Damian Lane hit the ‘go’ button on the juvenile with 300 metres to run, Let’srollthedice quickly put his rivals to the sword, winning by an eased-down three and a half lengths to catch the eye as one to watch for the future.
Let’srollthedice defeated the Matt Laurie-trained Shalaman (Shalaa), who finished narrowly ahead of Red Rapid (Merchant Navy) and Incorporation (Territories), with nine lengths back to the remaining trio in the field.
A $240,000 buy for John Foote Bloodstock at last year’s Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Let’srollthedice is owned by a syndicate led by Rose Grange Pastoral.
The colt is third live foal out of More Than Ready (Southern Halo) mare Hannah In A Hurry, herself a half-sister to Group 3 winner and Lightning Stakes (Gr 1, 1000m) third Golden Archer (Rock Of Gibraltar) as well as the stakes-placed Neapolitan (Denman).
Further back in the family, and under the colt’s Group 3-winning fourth dam Tasman Dancer (New Regent), are Group 1 winners Headturner (Anabaa), Anacheeva (Anabaa) and O’Marilyn (O’Reilly), the dam of last year’s Skyline Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) winner O’President (Fastnet Rock).
Hannah In A Hurry has not produced a live foal since Let’srollthedice, but was covered by Dundeel (High Chaparral) once again last year.
Arrowfield Stud’s Dundeel, who stood for a fee of $66,000 (inc GST) in 2021, has produced 17 two-year-old winners, among which lies Champagne Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) winner and barnmate Castelvecchio.
