Magic Millions features postponed until Friday
Persistent heavy rain claimed the last seven races on Saturday’s valuable Magic Millions Day card with the remainder of the program rescheduled to be run under lights at the Gold Coast on Friday night.
This means that the $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) and the $3 million Magic Millions 3YO Classic (RL, 1400m) will both be run on the rearranged card as part of a seven-race program.
Surface water from a storm that hit the course after the third race, the Magic Millions The Debut (1000m) won by the Liam Birchley-trained Amosu (Invader), delayed events by more than an hour. A decision was made to attempt to continue the meeting after track inspections before the call was made to postpone the meeting. A total of 41 millimetres of rain fell on raceday.
“The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Raceday is an iconic national event, and will shine brightest on the national stage under lights on Friday,” Racing Queensland CEO Jason Scott said.
“The safety of our animals and participants is paramount, and unfortunately a heavy downpour following the third race has left the track unsuitable for racing.”
Race times and further details are yet to be confirmed.
Elsewhere in Queensland, Saturday’s meeting at Eagle Farm was abandoned before a race was run due to heavy rainfall, while in New South Wales the cards scheduled for Glen Innes and Kembla Grange were both victims of the wet weather.
