Magic Millions release new-look Horses In Training Sale catalogue
A total of 210 lots, made up for 188 juveniles and 22 untapped three-year-olds, have been assembled for the Magic Millions Horses in Training Sale, which will take place at the Gold Coast Sales complex on October 22.
After a few years of steady editions, Magic Millions announced earlier this year they had decided to restructure the sale, which was formerly restricted to two-year-old breeze-ups, and make it available to sell educated unraced prospects, including three-year-olds, and also opened up an option of breezing a possibility of a virtual sale process application for interstate–based horses.
“We are delighted with the quality line up of stock we have entered,” Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch said.
“We are fortunate to have the finest equine educators preparing horses for the sale. They have proven track records for first–class horsemanship – unearthing future track stars for their next connections.
“This sale is a target each and every year for vendors who have sourced top prospects and educated them ready for that next step on the racetrack.”
In the past, the sale has unearthed some exciting prospects, including Krone (Eurozone), a $120,000 purchase for Roll The Dice Racing from the Rosemont Stud draft in 2027. The mare went on to win six races, including the Coolmore Classic (Gr 1, 1500m) in 2021, which saw her accumulate just short of $1.5 million in prize-money.
Group 1 winner Tyzone (Written Tycoon) and Victorem (I Am Invincible), winner of eight races headed by the 2020 edition of the Victory Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m), were also both sourced at the sale, while Rich Hill Stud’s Shocking (Street Cry), winner of the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) and Australian Cup (Gr 1, 2000m), fetched $64,000 at the 2007 renewal.
The sales success story was added to this year, with Group 2 winner and Group 1 runner-up Bittercreek (Snitzel) a graduate of last year’s sale.
“Last year’s sale has already produced a swag of winners led by Group 2 Spirit of Boom Classic winner and Group 1 JJ Atkins Stakes runner-up Bittercreek,” said Bowditch.
The 88 individual sires represented in the catalogue including Alabama Express (Redoute’s Choice), All Too Hard (Casino Prince), Better Than Ready (More Than Ready), Capitalist (Written Tycoon), Farnan (Not A Single Doubt), I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit), Justify (Scat Daddy), Pierata (Pierro), Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice), So You Think (High Chaparral), Spirit Of Boom (Sequalo), Starspangledbanner (Choisir), Street Boss (Street Cry), Tagaloa (Lord Kanaloa), Tassort (Brazen Beau), Toronado (High Chaparral), Trapeze Artist (Snitzel), Vancouver (Medaglia D’Oro), Written Tycoon (Iglesia), Yes Yes Yes (Rubick) and Zoustar (Northern Meteor).
Explaining the addition of a three-year-old section of the sale, Bowditch told ANZ Bloodstock News earlier this year: “This year we will welcome young educated horses, including three-year-olds, who have been educated and seen in public at trials or official jump–outs – they can also optionally breeze–up at one of our four sessions across Australia.
“This new section of the sale will enable owners and vendors to present exciting young stock to a strong line-up of domestic and international buyers.
“These sales in Australia are well received, but being able to add another dimension to it can attract more buyers. As well as it being us responding to vendors, it is also feedback from the buyers as well
“We are always looking to respond to what buyers both locally and internationally are looking for and we feel it is not only to breeze–up horses but horses who are a bit more mature or who have shown some performance. So, we are going to add that structure into the sale to try and market as many horses from as many formats as we possibly can.”
Magic Millions also confirmed that industry leading technology will again be a part of the breeze-up process for the auction across both two-year-old and three-year-old categories.
“Last year we introduced industry leading TripleS data with electronic chips providing interested parties with raceday quality data on stride length, frequency and speed,” Bowditch said. “This innovation will be back again.”
Adding to the opportunities available at the sale, 77 lots are nominated to the Magic Millions Race Series, while 116 two-year-olds are BOBS eligible and six three-year-olds are nominated to BOBS Silver. Some 17 lots are nominated to VOBIS Silver, four lots nominated to VOBIS Gold and 33 lots are the progeny of VOBIS Sires. No fewer than 63 lots are QTIS Fully Paid.
