Mawjood (2 g ex Maysoon by Eavesdropper) showed his potential when he landed a 1100-metre event at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Having finished sixth at odds of $21 on his debut at Canterbury in February, the Team Hawkes-trained juvenile had since been gelded and landed a pair of trials at Rosehill.

Sent off the $4.50 second-elect for Wednesday’s 1100-metre event under Zac Lloyd, Mawjood came home best of all down the centre of the track inside the final 100 metres to defeat Godolphin homebred Tarpaulin (Harry Angel), who was sent off the odds-on favourite, by 1.1 lengths. Metaphorically (Written Tycoon) finished a further 1.8 lengths back in third place.

“I was taken with his trial and it’s good to see him come and do that here today,” Lloyd said.

“We were three and four wide the whole way with no cover so he had to tough it out all the way. He’s only going to get better with time.”

A homebred for Emirates Park, Mawjood is a half-brother to Group 3-placed winner Mayaaseh (Exceed And Excel) being the third winner out of the metropolitan-winning mare Maysoon (Eavesdropper), who died last year.

Having stood for $11,000 (inc GST) in 2023, Tassort will stand for an increased fee of $38,500 for the 2024 breeding season.

In winning Wednesday’s event, Mawjood became the tenth individual winner for Tassort.
