Prominent owner Bon Ho will be hoping to add a second two-year-old win in as many days at Randwick today when colt Misty Legend (I Am Invincible) bids to follow the winning exploits of Snippety Legend (Snitzel) at Sale yesterday.
Misty Legend, who convincingly won a maiden at Newcastle last month, will face just three rivals in the two-year-old handicap over 1100 metres, but is the $4.80 third elect in what poses as a competitive end-of-season juvenile event in Sydney.
Trained by Richard and Will Freedman, Misty Legend was well supported in November’s Golden Gift (1100m) at Rosehill, but trailed home in last, almost 20 lengths behind Barber (Exceed And Excel), and was not seen again in public until February when fifth in a maiden plate on the Kensington track at Randwick.
After another spell, two trial wins were the precursor to the son of I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) getting off the mark at Newcastle, winning by two and three-quarter lengths as the $1.40 favourite.
Adam Hyeronimus takes the reins for today’s race, in which the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Epic Proportions (Better Than Ready) is the even-money favourite, bidding to back-up a two-length debut win at Canterbury on June 7.
Chris Waller’s Cigar Flick (Churchill), returning after her third in the Reisling Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) in March behind Learning To Fly (Justify), is at $2.30.
Pedigree is on the side of Misty Legend, however, with the colt being the third foal out of Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) mare Into The Mist, a winner of the Queen Of The South Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) in Adelaide among five career successes.
Into The Mist is, herself, a daughter of VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) winner De Lago Mist (Encosta De Lago), making her a three-quarter sister to Group 2 scorer Shrouded In Mist (Exceed And Excel) and three-time Listed winner Instinction (Exceed And Excel).
The colt was a $700,000 buy for his owner from the Three Bridges Thoroughbreds draft at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
