Naantali broke well from her wide barrier 12 and was settled back in eighth place by jockey Michael Dee. After being trapped deep, she improved wide rounding the home turn and dashed to the front on straightening, before going on to score an impressive three quarter length victory, in a winning time of 1:13.21.
Naantali is out of the winning Zabeel (Sir Tristram) mare Zaloot, who has had four other foals to race with two of them winners, including the Group Three-placed Choix De Maia (Choisir).
Zaloot herself is out of the Silver Shadow Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) winning mare Cashier (Danehill), making her a half-sister to Group Two winner Flying Pegasus (Fusaichi Pegasus) and Listed-placed Thrillpower (Encosta De Lago). Zaloot is also the half-sister to Hummingbird (Galileo), the dam of Listed winner Milwaukee (Fastnet Rock).
Purchased by Gem Bloodstock for $28,000 at the 2011 Inglis Sydney Easter Broodmare Sale from the Corumbene Stud draft, Zaloot slipped to Windsor Park-based Rip Van Winkle (Galileo) in 2015, before foaling a colt by Windsor Park shuttler Charm Spirit (Invincible Spirit) in 2016.
The mare was most recently served again by Rip Van Winkle, who now stands solely in New Zealand, having formerly shuttled from Coolmore Stud in Ireland.
