The Lindsay Park-trained and Shadwell-raced filly Nasaayim (Redoute’s Choice) put in an impressive performance to break her maiden at Ballarat on Tuesday.
Having her second career start after her good second on debut in a two-year-old plate (1000m) at Flemington on 13 January, she was quickly away from her outside barrier under Mark Zahra in the small five-horse field and after running about a bit in the early stages, she settled nicely outside the leader.
Upon straightening up she threw down her challenge, eventually gaining the lead at the 200 metre mark and drawing clear over the closing stages to win easily and in quick time of 1:09.84.
Bred by Arrowfield Stud and by their lynchpin sire Redoute’s Choice (Danehill), Nasaayim was purchased by Shadwell Stud Australasia for $650,000 at the Inglis Sydney Easter Yearling Sale.
The filly is out of Listed winner Nocturnelle (Elusive Quality) making the filly a three-quarters sister to Group Three winner Dracarys, who is by Redoute’s Choice’s son and barnmate Snitzel.
Nocturnelle herself is out of the Group Three winner Dama De Noche (Snippets) and is a half-sister to five winners, including stakes-placed pair Seduced (Encosta De Lago) and Catch Your Eyes (Encosta De Lago).
After slipping to Redoute’s Choice in 2016, Nocturnelle produced a filly foal by Snitzel and was served again by the champion sire in 2017.
