Newgate and GPI Racing snap up Stefi for The Everest
Ridgmont Farm have announced that their Stradbroke Handicap (Gr 1, 1400m)-winning mare Stefi Magnetica (All Too Hard) will contest next month’s The Everest (1200m) after she was snapped up by Newgate and GPI to run in their slot.
The four-year-old daughter of All Too Hard (Casino Prince) impressed with her Group 1 success last campaign and once again produced a big effort when second on her seasonal debut in The Shorts (Gr 2, 1100m) last Saturday.
“Ridgmont is thrilled to announce that Stefi Magnetica will be contesting the 2024 TAB Everest in the Newgate & GPI Racing slot,” Ridgmont’s director and owner Mitch Cunningham said in a post on X.
“This mare holds an incredibly special place in the hearts of my family and everyone here at the farm. Alongside our partners Ken Salagic, Jakub Vitek, and the Currie family, we are confident that Stefi is ready to conquer Everest.”
Trained by Bjorn Baker, Stefi Magnetica has won three and placed in a further seven of her 14 career starts, and will bid to add to her current earnings of $2,315,800.
“Stefi’s rise through the ranks from a Wellington maiden to an Everest contender has been remarkable for my stable, in particular for her ownership group,” the mare’s trainer said.
“She showed in The Shorts that she is still on an upward trajectory and the best is yet to come. Zac Lloyd shares my confidence in her ability and she will be at her peak on Everest day.
“It is a real thrill for myself and my team to once again be part of Australia’s richest race.”
Newgate Farm’s managing director Henry Field said: “We are delighted to have secured Stefi Magnetica for the Newgate/GPI Everest slot.
“Daniel O’Sullivan who we work with closely on form feels she’s a mare who is still on an upward spiral and rated her well off her last two starts.
“Equally, it is lovely to do a deal with her co-owners the Cunningham family who we have a close relationship with.”
