Maiden Of The Week

Peaceful (NZ) 2 f Savabeel – Paloma by Mossman

On her fifth career start, Peaceful proved too strong for her rivals to seal both her maiden win and maiden stakes win at Te Rapa last Saturday.

She was one of the first away, however jockey Matt Cameron eased her back to settle fifth, one off the rail. She crept a shade closer passing the 800 metre mark where Cameron pushed her forward, three wide, to be in a challenging position prior to straightening.

Second into the straight, Cameron gave her a reminder and she levelled up to the leader inside the 200 metres to get her head in front and eventually draw away to win nicely by two lengths, posting a winning time of 1:27.29.

Purchased by Bruce Perry Bloodstock for NZ$260,000 at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale, Peaceful is out of two-time winning mare Paloma (Mossman), whose other two foals to race have also been winners, including Listed-placed filly Miss Fi (Makfi).

Paloma herself is out of Group Three winner World Peace (Danehill) making her a half-sister to Group Three winner Chivalry (Street Cry).

Further back her third is Group Three winner Light Up The World (Rory’s Jester).

Since foaling Peaceful, Paloma produced a colt by Westbury Stud-based sire El Roca (Fastnet Rock) and a colt by Savabeel (Zabeel). The mare has most recently been served again by Savabeel.
