Perfect Excuse tops record Inglis Digital Sale
Undefeated Justify (Scat Daddy) colt Perfect Excuse proved to be the star attraction when topping the Inglis Digital November (Late) Sale which closed on Wednesday.
With a total of 11 lots realising $100,000 or more – the most of any individual Inglis Digital sale in 2024 – the sale was the most successful online auction in the southern hemisphere this year, grossing a yearly record $5,602,000.
A recent Warrnambool maiden winner for Ciaron Maher having been bought by the trainer for $400,000 at last year’s Easter Yearling Sale, Perfect Excuse is set to continue his career in Hong Kong having been sold to Alexander So’s So Bloodstock for $355,000.
“We’re very happy to have got him,” So said. “We own the brother [Pray For Mir] here in Hong Kong and we love him so hopefully we can get the same joy with this horse.
“Perfect Excuse did well with Ciaron [Maher] and he really likes the horse so we’ve spoken to David [Eustace] and he’ll take him. We don’t have any expectations, it takes horses time to adapt into Hong Kong but all going well, we do think he’ll get over a mile or further.”
The second-top lot was dual winner Half Yours (St Jean), who sold to Damon Gabbedy’s Belmont Bloodstock and Tony and Calvin McEvoy for $305,000.
Other significant results in the sale included Ballarat debut winner Snitzel Blitz (Snitzel), in foal to Tassort (Brazen Beau), who sold to Lime Country Thoroughbreds for $255,000, four-year-old Some People Callme (Maurice), who realised $240,000 when selling to Cameron Cooke for Charlie Sita as part of the Halo Racing Reduction, which not only included the two top lots of the sale overall and four of the top five, and Our Belisa (Lope De Vega) – in foal to Stay Inside (Extreme Choice) – selling to Durham Park for $225,000.
