Platinum Jubilee presents a Golden opportunity

Group-winning half-sister to Lady Of Camelot to be offered at Magic Millions National Sale

Platinum Jubilee (Zoustar), the Gimcrack (Gr 3, 1000m)winning half-sister to reigning Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m) heroine Lady Of Camelot (Written Tycoon), will be offered at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Arguably the best-bred and possibly the most valuable filly to go to market this year and adding to Platinum Jubilee’s currency is the fact that the aforementioned Lady Of Camelot and her other half-sister, four-time Group winner Queen Of The Ball (I Am Invincible), Miss Debutante’s (Fastnet Rock) first foal, are all owned by breeder Sir Owen Glenn’s Go Bloodstock.

Sir Owen also retains their dam Miss Debutante, believed to be the first mare in Australian history to produce three Group winners with her first three foals.

She was such a high-class two-year-old herself and one of the best two-year-olds of her generation

Bruce Slade

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Platinum Jubilee, who copped severe interference when first-up in Saturday’s Don Casboult Classic (Typhoon Tracy Stakes) (Gr 3, 1200m) at Moonee Valley, is slated to return to Sydney for the P J Bell Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Randwick on April 6 in what could be the swansong of her racing career.

The three-year-old filly, who is raced by the 2022-established Valerie syndicate which targeted four well-bred yearling fillies in its first year, was selected by her trainers and Kestrel Thoroughbreds’ Bruce Slade at that year’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale and is bound to return many times her $600,000 purchase price when she returns to the Gold Coast.

Slade said the deeds of Miss Debutante and her daughters makes Platinum Jubilee one of the most sought after breeding prospects in the country.

“[Miss Debutante is] only a young mare getting bred up by Go Bloodstock. Queen Of The Ball and Lady Of Camelot are owned by Go Bloodstock and they will get every opportunity when she goes to stud, so Platinum Jubilee represents an opportunity to get involved in this family when access might be difficult for the foreseeable future,” Slade told ANZ Bloodstock News.

“On top of that, she was such a high-class two-year-old herself and one of the best two-year-olds of her generation.

“She’s a mare you can imagine you’ll be selling high-priced yearlings out of down the track if that is what the new owner would like to do.

“She’s also a huge chance, statistically, [of being a successful broodmare] being a Group winner herself out of a mare who has produced three Group winners.”

Bott, who along with Waterhouse also train Lady Of Camelot (pictured below), prepared Miss Debutante to win four of her eight starts, before she was retired to stud in 2018 by Sir Owen Glenn.

“Platinum Jubilee’s mother … she was blessed with exceptional talent,” Bott said.

“We were, therefore, keen to secure her first foal offered at public auction, Platinum Jubilee.

“She looked the part and delivered as one of the very best two-year-old fillies of her generation, just like Lady of Camelot and Queen of the Ball.

“One wonders what this pedigree might look like in ten years’ time knowing the opportunities they will receive when they go to stud.

“Platinum Jubilee looks like the only access point to all the upside in the foreseeable future.”

The Newgate Consignment will offer Platinum Jubilee, who is co-owned by Go Bloodstock, at the Gold Coast sale.

“Platinum Jubilee was a beautiful yearling and her physique, along with her terrific two-year-old form and incredible dam, has to make her one of the most commercial fillies offered off the track in recent years,” Newgate Farm principal Henry Field said.

“History will tell you Platinum Jubilee has a high probability of leaving sale topping yearlings and stakes winners in her own right.”

The Valerie syndicate will also offer the Lonhro Plate (Listed, 1000m) and Quezette Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m)-placed Sicilian (I Am Invincible) at the National Sale.

Sicilian, a daughter of the Group 3-placed Pursuits (Lonhro), was a $650,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by Waterhouse, Bott and Slade in 2022.

Platinum Jubilee’s dam Miss Debutante has quickly established her status as one of Australia’s finest broodmares with three outstanding Group winners from her three runners to date

Barry Bowditch

These latest additions to the catalogue come hot off the heels of Magic Millions confirming last week that big-ticket mare, dual Group 1 winner Atishu (Savabeel), would also go under the hammer in the opening race fillies and mares session on May 28 on the Gold Coast.

Barry Bowditch, Magic Millions’ managing director, has no doubt that Platinum Jubilee will be on the radar of Australia’s and the world’s premier breeders.

“There’s no better bred three-year-old filly to go to market in the southern hemisphere this year than Platinum Jubilee and we must thank her ownership group for the trust placed in Magic Millions to market her to the world,” Bowditch said.

“Platinum Jubilee’s dam Miss Debutante has quickly established her status as one of Australia’s finest broodmares with three outstanding Group winners from her three runners to date.”

A $430,000 Inglis Easter yearling purchase from the Kia Ora Stud draft by agent Paul Moroney for Go Bloodstock, Miss Debutante was trained by Waterhouse and Bott to win four races including the Denise’s Joy (Listed, 1100m) at Scone.

Miss Debutante has a weanling sister to the Michael Freedman-trained four-year-old Queen Of The Ball, who contested last Saturday’s William Reid (Gr 1, 1200m) at Moonee Valley, which was won by Imperatriz (I Am Invincible).

Platinum Jubilee, who finished runner-up to Skirt The Law (Better Than Ready) in last year’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m), was unplaced in three starts as a spring three-year-old.

Slade, however, said the filly has returned in much better shape this preparation, defeating Coolmore Stud Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Ozzmosis (Zoustar) in a Randwick barrier trial prior to her luckless run in the Typhoon Tracy.

“Her spring prep was just a write-off, she wasn’t going that well, to be fair, even in her trackwork and trials. This prep, Adrian and Gai really think they’ve got her back. She’s very comfortable,” Slade said.

“I thought she was the last filly off the bit on Saturday and we all thought she was going to run a really big race, but unfortunately she copped a big check at the 600-metre mark when she got knocked off.

“We feel like she’s going well and she’s a young filly who is only lightly raced with some racing left in her.

“But I would say, for most people, her breeding value will outweigh her racing value in the short-term.”
