Plenty of quality on offer at Inglis Easter Round 2
Round 2 of the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale features the same stallions that have dominated yearling sales all through 2020: Champion sire Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) with seven lots, I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) (seven), Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) (two) and Pierro (Lonhro) (four) are again well represented in terms of quality, with the sale comprising 85 lots after withdrawals.
Of particular note is that the sale includes a high proportion of well-bred fillies with Frankel (Galileo) represented by four fillies that any stud would be delighted to have as future broodmares.
These five stallions account for 30 per cent of the catalogue.
COLTS
Three colts by I Am Invincible are sure to be popular, headed by Lot 95. The Bhima Thoroughbreds-consigned colt is out of an Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) half-sister to the incomparable Winx (Street Cry). The colt’s bloodlines are highly commercial but adding the Winx factor is more cream. If he can run, he has a future as a stallion.
Lot 12 is from a Danzero (Danehill) half-sister to Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner True Jewels (Brief Truce), as well as Group 2 scorer and three-time Group 1 placegetter Wager (Flying Spur).
Lot 25 is out of a Lonhro (Octagonal) half-sister to three stakes winners including two-time Hong Kong Horse of the Year Fairy King Prawn (Danehill) as well as Group 1 victor Easy Rocking (Barathea).
Lot 85 has a lovely line up of sires as his foundation: I Am Invincible, Not A Single Doubt and Zabeel (Sir Tristram). His dam Gypsy Diamond (Not A Single Doubt) could run too, winning four races – including three at Group level – and placing at Group 1 level.
Snitzel has Lot 42, a colt from the tough Savabeel (Zabeel) mare Soriano. It would have been very interesting to have seen Soriano race in Australia as her accomplishments in New Zealand were very strong, scoring twice at Group 1 level, three times at Group 2 level and adding six Group 1 placings.
The Snitzel brother to Thronum is Lot 89. Thronum took out the Australia Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at Moonee Valley where he also finished second in the William Reid Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m). With champion sires Street Cry (Machiavellian) and Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway) close up in his pedigree, he might have a stud future.
Victor Ludorum (Shamardal), recent winner of the Poule d’Essai des Poulains (Gr 1, 1600m) and likely favourite for tomorrow’s Prix du Jockey Club (Gr 1, 2100m), is a hot family update as well.
Pierro is represented by Lot 63, out of the lightly raced Newbury Listed winner Apple Charlotte (Royal Applause). His granddam, Maid of Camelot (Caerleon), was also a Listed scorer at Goodwood.
The sole colt by Not A Single Doubt is Lot 92. His dam Jacquetta (Encosta De Lago) is a five-time winner and Listed placed sister to Group 2 victor Count Encosta and half-sister to Group 2 winner Lieutenant (Danehill Dancer).
Lot 57 is the only colt by Frankel to be offered in Round 2 and he is from a winning Shamardal daughter of three-time Listed scorer and smart two-year-old Sweet Lilly (Tobougg). Shamardal is the damsire of Cambridge Stud-owned Hello Youmzain (Kodiac), tough winner of last month’s Diamond Jubilee Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) at Royal Ascot.
FILLIES
There are four fillies by Frankel and all are highly desirable in terms of residual value.
Lot 6 is bred on the same Frankel-Shamardal cross as Lot 57 and is the granddaughter of dual Listed stakes winner Lake Toya (Darshaan), herself the dam of Prix Saint-Alary (Gr 1, 2000m) scorer Sobetsu (Dubawi).
Lot 41 is from a High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells) half-sister to Maraahel (Alzao), whose eight wins included two Group 2s (both at Royal Ascot), five Group 3s plus six Group 1 placings.
Lot 90 is from a twice winning two-year-old daughter of Listed winner Zayn Zen (Singspiel) whose dam, Roshani (Kris), is a winning three-quarter sister to triple classic winner Oh So Sharp (Kris).
Snitzel also has four fillies on offer and all have plenty to recommend them, however Lot 86, the half-sister to Gypsy Diamond, might be the most popular. Buyers who miss out on Lot 85 will only have to wait a couple of minutes to snap up this well-bred close relative.
Lot 24 is from a winning Group 2-placed Danehill Dancer (Danehill) mare, who is in turn from a Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) sister to Group 3 winner and Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) placegetter Mahler.
The three I Am Invincible fillies are Lots 33, 44 and 80. Lot 33 is the half-sister to dual Group 3 winner Sweet Redemption (Snitzel). Their granddam, Danglissa (Danzero), was a quality mare, winning six times including the Flight Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) and two at Group 2 level.
Lot 80 is from a Zeditave (The Judge) half-sister to Champion Hong Kong Sprinter Genius And Evil (Marauding) – who raced there as Absolute Champion – and to South African Derby (Gr 1, 2450m) winner Wylie Hall (Redoute’s Choice). A filly from the great “Belle” family, she is sure to be popular.
All three fillies by Pierro deserve attention as well. Lot 15 is from Majestic Music (Al Maher) whose six wins were all stakes level – two Group 2s, two Group 3s and two Listed races.
Lot 37 is from a half-sister to two Group winners namely Rasa Lila (Darci Brahma) and Posavina (Tiger Hill). Her granddam is a Sadler’s Wells (Northern Dancer) daughter of American Grade 1 winner Tis Juliet (Alydar).
Lot 59 is the three-quarter sister to the sharp sprinter Generalife (Lonhro), winner of nine races including three at stakes level as well as twice Group 1-placed.
The one filly by Not A Single Doubt is Lot 23 and she is out of a Melbourne-winning two-year-old half-sister to Risque (Darci Brahma), winner of the New Zealand 1000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m).
Notables not by the above sires:
Lot 11 is by first season sire Star Turn (Star Witness) and will likely attract much attention, being the half-sister to current star Vanna Girl (Husson). Vanna Girl has had just ten starts, winning seven including three successive stakes. Had the Queensland Oaks (Gr.1, 2400m) been scheduled, the race was probably at her mercy, being the dominant filly at the recent Brisbane carnival.
Lot 36 is by All Too Hard (Casino Prince) and is out of Sacred Choice (Choisir) who, apart from winning the Doncaster Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) and Myer Classic (Gr 1, 1600m), was also four times Group 1-placed.
Lot 38 is by More Than Ready (Southern Halo), the sire of more than 200 stakes winners. This filly is a three-quarter sister to a Group 3 winner from a Melbourne winning half-sister to two Group winners and granddaughter of Group 1 winner Star Satire (Volksraad). The black-type is close up in this family.
The catalogue may be small but the quality, especially of the fillies, is strong.
