Price and Kent Jnr swoop at July Sale

Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr got involved on the second day of the Tattersall’s July Sale on Wednesday when acquiring Bur Dubai (Night Of Thunder) for 250,000gns (approx. AU$500,000).

The son of Night Of Thunder (Dubawi) was signed for under the Price Kent Racing and Myracehorse Australia banner, with Jason Singh taking bids over the phone.

Consigned by trainer Kevin Phiippart De Foy’s Induna Stables, the three-year-old colt has won one and placed in a further four of his seven starts and has an official rating of 89.

“We work the sectionals really hard and put in hours and hours of work into that research,” Kent Jnr said from Melbourne.

“Although this horse’s last start, when he won by nine lengths, was impressive, it was his performance in a Listed race at Epsom in April that really impressed us when he finished sixth. It was a hot, hot race and they ripped home, and he put in some really fast sectionals.

“He has got upside on upside on upside for us and has the perfect profile for Australia – he is fast, we love his sire, and he is the right type with bone, good feet and he vetted clean.

“We have partnered with My Racehorse, who has done so well, and we will syndicate the remaining percentage in the horse, there are shares available!”

Kent Jnr, who had previously been in the UK overseeing Kitty Rose’s (Invincible Army) training before her fifth-placed run in the Sandringham Stakes (1m) at Royal Ascot last month, revealed Bur Dubai will not travel Down Under immediately and will spend some down time in Britain.

“We will give him six weeks and let him take advantage of your summer and warmer weather – he will then ship and can slot into our routine,” said Kent.

“I worked in Newmarket and know Kevin – he is a lovely fella and is a great trainer who looks after his horse really well, that was a big positive for us, too.”

My Racehorse owns The Metropolitan (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Just Fine (sea The Stars), who was purchased at Tattersalls by McKeever Bloodstock and Waterhouse Bott Racing for 300,000gns from Freemason Lodge Stables at the 2022 Autumn Horses In Training Sale.

Meanwhile, having combined with Johnny McKeever to secure Topanga (Siyouni) for 135,000gns on the opening day of the sale, owner and breeder Gary Johnson was again prominent alongside the renowned bloodstock agent, who went to 65,000gns (approx. AU$130,080) to land Crimson Coronet (Zoustar) late in Wednesday’s session.

McKeever purchased the three-year-old daughter of Widden Stud’s flagship sire Zoustar (Northern Meteor) out of Charlie Fellowes’s Bedford House Stables. The filly has won once and placed once from six starts to date, and has an official rating of 69.
