Regent (AUS)
O: Godolphin
B: Darley
T: John O’Shea
W: #theraces Maiden 2YO Handicap, 1100m, Canterbury, 17 April
Racing on debut Regent broke well from barrier six in the ten-horse field and he was settled back in fifth place on the rails by Tye Angland in the early part of the race. Turning for home, Angland angled the colt deeper into clear running and he was able to run on strongly to score by a comfortable long neck in a time of 1:06.43.
Regent is out of the Loup Sauvage (Riverman) mare Wild Queen, who won the Millie Fox Stakes (Gr 3, 1300m) and the Hawkesbury Gold Cup (Gr 3, 1600m), and whose five foals to race three have been winners.
The son of Darley’s Lonhro (Octagonal) is a half-brother to Yavanna (Redoute’s Choice), the dam of Listed winner and Group One-placed Telperion (Street Cry).
Wild Queen herself is a half-sister to Group Three winner Cumbria (Lake Coniston) and Group Two winner So Gorgeous (Brief Truce), the dam of Sterling City (Nadeem), who won the 2014 Golden Shaheen (Gr 1, 1200m) and Group Two winner Tipungwuti (Fusaichi Pegasus).
In 2015 Wild Queen produced a filly by Exceed And Excel (Danehill), before producing a filly by Lonhro in 2016 and she missed to Exceed And Excel this year.
